I had to put my baby, Socrates to sleep today. He had very late stage cancer. Something abdominal which metastasized to the dermus causing lumps everywhere and impairing motor function and appetite. He was in a lot of pain, so it was the best thing for the little guy. He’s happier now, but that doesn’t mean I feel any better about it. I’ve had to do this once before with my pet dog, Cromwell when I was 19, it wasn’t as bad though. He was old, Socrates was only a year. And Socrates was my baby. I loved that little rattie like he was my child.

I’m crying on and off about it, trying to remember the good times, but it is NEVER easy to lose a child or a friend, especially when you’re the one who has to decide you have to let them go. I guess I’m just missing him a lot. He was an adorable sweet little angel of a rat, and I will always, always love him.
