Wise Mother of the Ironwood by WintersKnight Wise Mother of the Ironwood by WintersKnight
Angrboda is the consort/wife of Loki and the mother of Hel, Fenrir, and Jormungandr. She is known as the Hag of the Ironwood and is of the Jotun race. She is considered to be a sort of wolf-mother goddess by many.

The spikes on her crown are bones, and I chose to depict her pregnant.

I finally got some better image editing programmes to get the colours to work out. Hooray!

Angerboda and the Ironwood witch are not the same. Angrboda died when Loki ate her heart, causing him to get pregnant with the three monsters. Witch of Ironwood was Fenrir's wife.

If it helps you any with Frigg.. The on-line traditional poems I read say that "necklace-glad" could very well be an aspect of Frigg. So.. Mengloth might be an aspect of her that you can better relate to. I've always had trouble with her because I revel in correspondences and they compare Friday to Venus ... and I totally despise Aphrodite/Venus . with a PASSION!!!   But the more I read about Frigg the more relaxed I'm getting about her -- I put her back on my "Friday"
And as for the lovely 'Boda, she is the main character in my current, personal "fan-fic" .. and I am writing about her being with child with Hela.
so, thanks for the pic of my beloved "mother" character.
(btw- her other kids are "Fen", twin girls (all 3 shape-shifting wolves) and a rather moody 16 year old boy named Zachary (Zack) who can see psychically, but feels a little out of place at home)
:-P
(I like Mucha's style, too...)

Thank you! Drawing this really upped my opinion of her and made me not as scared of her. She is definitely a wicked baddass, her.

Indeed. She never really scared me to begin with for some reason. Actually, I felt kind of bad for her, what with her having her babies taken away from her.

I know, really. T_T. That did NOT endear the Aesir to me too much. Course, I've always been more partial to Loki and his ilk, so yeah.

Yeah, the Aesir are too full of Valor and it's annoying. And very few of them get my jokes. Accept Frigg for some reason. She seems to get my jokes for some reason.

I'm fond of Mothi and Magni. . . Mothi especially. . . though their father >_< grr. Frigga... I'll see what I think of her when I get to her portrait. Really I haven't communicated with the Aesir much. Loki was the one who came to me yeeeeaars ago, so I got somewhat biased I guess.

Thor is easy fodder for trolling. lol. I make fun of him so much. lol. It's bad.

I think Loki was trying to get my attention years ago, but back then I never realized who he was until later. but I remember having dreams about being around Yggdrasil, one in particular I remember walking and talking with an older man and a shapeshifter.
Back then, I didn't know anything about Norse mythology. Heck, my only knowledge of Thor was that he was a super hero. lol.

But it's funny how even when I didn't know who they were, they showed up in my dreams. It makes me happy knowing that they all tried to get my attention years before I really started to learn who they are.

I almost became a Hammer wearer but then Loki decided to inspire me and pulled me away from Thor. lol. And boy, am I glad about that because Thor would not have put up with me for long.

Frigg though did contact me once when I was having anxiety because my mind was worried about having diseases. She came to me in the form of her voice. It scared me at first but then I realized who it was.

That is totally awesome!

My story about my first "official" meeting with Loki was kinda weird. . . back when I was pretty young (like maybe 14 or so. . . that's about 15 years ago, by the way and I just made myself feel old >_<) I had some major anger issues. I was having a lot of trouble with my friends because of it too. . . we'll not go into too many details, but I would definitely make good on threats of setting people's hair on fire and the like (not all of it. . . it was controlled, honest).

Anyway, I was a teenager, and teenagers do stuff like that, and I was also into Norse mythology and paganism etc. So, one day, depressed about my friend issues and my anger issues etc, I decided to ask the Norse deities for help. I left it as an open invitation to give me a sign that someone was out there to help. Then I went for a walk.

About halfway home, after nothing had really happened, I passed by an old lady walking the most BEAUTIFUL Australian Shepherd I had ever seen. We had one of our own, but a girl, and much smaller. . . anyway, I asked her what this beautiful blue-eyed dog's name was. . .her reply: "Loki"

He just kinda chooses you I suppose. . . that's probably the way it is with all of them. Sigyn and Hel came to me much more recently, but Loki's always kinda just been there.

Very nice! She's one of my favorites. I'd like to add this to her shrine, if I may!

I like it! Despite the Art Nouveau style they have in common, this is rather different from your picture of Sigyn but then I think she and Angrboda are very different people.

Thanks! That's definitely what I was going for. Sigyn's a much more gentle seeming mother-type while Angrboda scares the crap out of me (though I still find her awesome). I tried to bring that out in the colouring by using the bold colours with Angrboda more and the more soft pastels with Sigyn.

I like them both equally but Sigyn is the softer of the two. I wouldn't say that she is completely helpless though, she's a survivor.

Oh, I totally agree. Sigyn is a very strong woman, she just does it in subtle ways instead of RAAR I AM WOLF WOMAN I EETCHU!!!
